The Influential Nonprofit Episode 101: Maryanne Dersch: How To Get What You Want

Releasing the outcome means deciding that you’ll be okay before anything happens.

It means letting go and not tying your happiness and your worth with the outcome of your goals.

It’s important to release the outcome because people can feel your energy.

When somebody sells from a place of desperation, you can feel it and it will make you feel uncomfortable. Attachment creates fear, and fear creates more fear.

Releasing the outcome is different from giving up. When you release the outcome, you’re tapping into the energy of completeness and wholeness that’s completely unattached to circumstances and is instead rooted in confidence within.

The harder we try to push someone to do something we want, the harder it’ll be for them to do what we want. Ironically, it is when we give more decision-making power to someone that they become more inclined to do what we want them to.

  • The more that we want it, the more that we tie our happiness, our worth, onto goals and onto how much money we bring in, the less likely we are to have it.

  • When we are attached to an outcome, we've automatically given away our power and we're operating on steer and desire. When we operate on steer from fear, we create more fear. And when we push people, they push back.

  • So the idea is, it's not about the outcome, it's about staying sovereign, staying on the throne.
