The Influential Nonprofit Episode 58: Maryanne Dersch: The Philanthropic Heart: Why Someone Cares About Your Nonprofit...Or Doesn't
It’s not your job to convince people to make people care about your nonprofit. Your job is to make people feel valued, heard and seen.
The philanthropic heart is the reason why somebody cares about your nonprofit and somebody else doesn’t.
You can’t convince someone to change their heart. All you can do is to reach out to those who already do have a philanthropic heart.
When people feel valued for who they are, they will remember you fondly. Every person has six needs: certainty, variety, significance, connection, growth, and contribution. Make people feel valued by addressing these needs.
“Fundraising and marketing can be laborious, difficult, rejection-filled experiences because we see everyone as a potential donor.”
“The philanthropic heart has to do with the legacy that you wanna leave, the difference that you wanna make in the world, the change you seek.”
“Our job is to connect philanthropic hearts.”
